  • From Cow Corner #3

    Greetings one and all.

Time to round off a most successful season (6th in the Willows League and a fair old outing in the Shield competition) with some Club notices. ( I promise to waffle on at length about our fabulous season at a later date.)

    1. As it stands we have NO opposition for the Tuesday 19th August as EuroComm cannot raise a team.

    2. Thursday 21st August match has transmogrified into an Inter Team Challenge. 2 Teams of 6 to lock horns in two innings of friendly cricket at the Ball Road Rumney Rugby Club pitch. Libations thereafter and during I suspect.

    3. Wednesday 27th August is currently our last scheduled match v Glamorgan Centurions at Llantwit Fardre. Team to follow.

    4. Saturday 30th August will be Matt & Samantha's wedding. All CBBs & WAGs welcome at the Park Inn Mary Ann Street (Formerly Jury's Hotel opposite the CIA) from 7pm. All the best to you both from all CBBs.

5.Its time to start sending in your votes for Players' Player of the Year. Just the one vote per member please gentlemen. Results of this and other awards to be presented at our End of Season evening (TBA). Shiny trophies in abundance.

    6. JBO anyone ? Book Friday 12th September off and come to the CBBs Jolly Boys Outing to watch day 3 of the County Champsionship game Glamorgan v Worcestershire at the SWALEC. How many of you have pairs of freebee tickets you can use for this match ? Lets pool them together and the Club will buy any other tickets needed on the day. A much needed social shindig in the heat of a mid September Indian Summer it says here.

    7. Future dates will surface for our AGM at the Model Inn.

    8. Those of you still owing the odd quid or two to funds need to cough up the lolly PDQ. Muchos grassy arse.

    Yours from Cow Corner,

    Mr Chairman.

  • Shield Over : 4 out of 10. The dearth of August cricket continues... Sigh...
  • Rhiwby Tuesday : CBBs open their Shield account with an overcast win over Rhiwbina.
  • Shield Campaign 1 : On a cold overcast night at St Fagans CBBs competing in the Willows League premiere competition faced league winners South Glam. Batting first CBBs suffered the mother of all batting collapses as wickets tumbled without troubling the scorer. Thanks to Mogridge and Hagger there followed a rallying few overs that saw us set a not too shabby 84 for South Glam to chase. Not for the first time this season our bowlers did us proud as a combination of spin - Mister Rhys Dart and "right arm over umpire" saw South Glam wickets tumble as the league winners only amassed 24 or so after 9 overs. A couple of dropped catches and a few chips to the boundary saw the match swing the League Winners way. Set 11 or so off 3 the CBBs continued to push. A contentious blocked run out saw tempers flare before a muted final over saw the opposition slip past the CBBs total. CBBs and the Shield go together like marmite on toast !
  • Onwards to the Shield Gentlemen !

Our great season just gets better and better Gentlemen as our last day win at the Cathedral School against the Cavaliers sees us leapfrog them into 6th position and qualify for the Shield.

  • Cathedral Bells ring out as CBBs triumph ! (08/07/2008)

A sunny evening and despite the pealing cacophony from the cathedral CBBs posted a very reasonable 140 for 5 against the Cavaliers in what was always going to be a hard fought match given our last two encounters. Mogridge starring with 63 not out ably assisted by Captain Clark's 35. This despite a shaky start from the Left Handers Union who both came a cropper down the crusty end of the wicket. Tight bowling and cat like fielding across the team saw us limit the Cavs to 126 (for 8) as they fell 15 short in their run chase. A goodly win and with inclement weather forecast for the rest of the week who knows where the rest of CBBs season lies. The CBBs circle was once again in evidence and is to be applauded..
  • CBB 159 for 5 v BA 96 for 6 at Blackweir 30/6/2008

A warm sunny night saw the sleeping giant that is CBB record their first win of the season. (Ties and Walkovers excluded) Batting first CBB amassed 159 for 5 with Rob Sherrington (paid up member of the Left Handers Union) hitting an unbeaten career best 76 not out ably supported by Rob Jones on 30.

Tight bowling and snappy fielding with the sun on our backs saw BA limited to 96 for 6 in return.

  • Thanks to Rob "Stand Up" Sherrington we are now a Facebook Group. The Highways Hurricanes have embraced the web too.
  •
  • From Our Indoor Correspondent. The CBB's continue to add to their silverware collection. Attached is the photo of us with the Indoor League runners-up trophies. I apologize for the haziness - the umpire who took them was quite old and shaky - as a certain Imran Ahmed would attest to (regarding some dubious LBW decisions) - Suraj.
